HANNA (Head and Neck Nurses Association)

ABOUT US

HANNA was founded in May 2000 by Deirdre Hyland Clinical Nurse Manager St. John’s Ward, St. James’s Hospital, Dublin, Margaret Codd, Head & Neck Nurse Cancer Co- ordinator, St. James’s Hospital, Dublin and Niamh Sourke, Formally Clinical Facilitator for E.N.T. Higher Diploma programme Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital, Dublin.

The Inaugural meeting of HANNA took place on the 24th may 2000. The purpose of the association is:

  • To support E.N.T, Head & Neck and maxiofacial nurses
  • To provide a forum for discussion
  • To allow standardisation of practice
  • To provide education for nurses
  • As a lobby for Head & Neck patients
  • To provide a national database
  • To raise the profile of Head & Neck nursing.

Meetings take place four times per year and the first National conference took place in September 2001 in Tullamore with over 85 delegates attending. The Second National conference and A.G.M. will take place on 21st September 2002 in the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick.

Since the foundation in May 2000 the association has grown with a membership of over 40 people from throughout Ireland – Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Galway, Offaly, Sligo and Belfast.
