Group discussion identified following areas as stated objectives of Irish Research Nurses Network:

• Establish a working group to facilitate a network of research Nurses nationwide.
• Create a contact list of nurses working in clinical research in Ireland.
• Organise an annual event for research nurses.
• Reinvigorate the website to publicise I.R.N.N as a nurse’s group.
• Seek recognition for research nurses as a sub-specialty (Unions, An Bord Altranais).
• Seek to get DOHC to recognize nurses working in research as a separate employment grade.
• Increase visibility of research nurses (journals etc.)
• Aim to establish educational courses to meet needs of nurses working in clinical research.
• Identify continuing professional development needs in order to inform the clinical research course.
• Facilitate the sharing of Standard Operating Procedures when appropriate.
